Edwin:

I figured out the tag thing some time ago. I've migrated from Jmemorize over to Anki. The features that forced my hand are sound (I've used a combination of Audacity sound editor w/ my Pimsleur CDs and the Acapela text-to-voice synthesizer to make sound files for every one of my thousands of French flash cards) and the ability to have flash card models with more than 2 sides. When my cards show in reverse, only the sound plays (instead of the written back of the card.) I find that quite useful in that it helps with aural comprehension.

Now, if I can just figure out how to get Latex math equations to work on Anki (I can't find an explanation anywhere) then I'll be really onto something.

Hello! I'm a girl from Texas, U.S.A. doing tefl London. I've been here for only a couple of weeks and I'm still looking for an institution where I can apply my tefl skills. I'm eager to teach young kids. The agency that is supposed to be assigning me with a job has been lax. So I decided to make my own move and I'm starting it here. If you can help me in anyway or if you have any idea about teaching English in London please leave me a message here. Thanks!!

This is the first i've heard of shadowing that didn't involve reading - in my ESL classes, i've only used it with a combination of audio recordings of passages plus copies of the actual text. Learners then read along with the recording - silently the first time (or even a few times), then (when they feel ready) aloud trying to shadow the phrasing & intonation patterns of the reader. It is also useful to mark the phrases, or 'chunks', and stressed words or syllables to focus on suprasegmentals which help a lot with communicative quality. Also, as they read along, after trying to shadow, they can highlight the elements that give them problems. Finally, it's ideal to have the learner record their own reading of a section & compare it with the original, and then have the teacher listen to it & provide feedback on a copy of the written text, focusing on 2 or 3 of the most significant/frequent problems to work on. I have found that these shadowing exercises can, over time, help reading speed, fluency & language awareness, as well as oral fluency. Moreover, the learner recordings - easy with Goldwave, freeware online - make excellent autofeedback items for a portfolio evaluation during a course.

I am vietnamese living in Hochiminh city, I have invested a lot of time and effort for my better spoken English which have been confirmed by many foreigners I met. I have even met some Vietnamese americans (living there for more than 20 years) but I donot admire their sounds.
But I donot know what level I am and can I speak perfectly (slowly but accurately in pronoucing sounds) so that every people in the world can understand me with easy. I try to record my voice to upload in the internet. Who can help me to rate my pronunciation? How can I compare my sound with those of well-educated vietnamese or vietnamese americans or some non native speakers on TV.
I appreciate your help
