Quite often, I and my wife would like to dine out in some Vietnamese restaurants. Other than the many Vietnamese restaurants actually run by the Hong Kong people, some authentic Vietnamese restaurants still play Vietnamese pop music inside. Upon hearing the music my wife would freak out because she does not like the sound of the language. But for some reason, I would enjoy the music very much.

It is not usual for me to meet Vietnamese-speaking people in Toronto, especially in Chinatown. I don’t know much about the Vietnamese language, but it seems to have a rigid pronunciation scheme (a bit like Pinyin in Mandarin), that hopefully once I learn it, I can read out the Vietnamese without knowing the meaning.
